SHEMEKA BUSH

I have always wanted to drive trucks since I was a kid.  It has always fascinated me to be able to see the sites. I obtained my class B over 10 years ago and have been driving within the area.  I wanted my CDL A, which is not a traditional career for women. Due to some circumstances, I wanted to wait another 2 years until my son graduated from high school. My sister, who is also a participant, said,’ Let’s do this’. With that said, we came to WorkSource.”

“Transitioning from being a job seeker to becoming a community partner has been an incredibly rewarding experience. My career path came to a halt when I had to take care of my father during his illness. After his passing, I found myself at a crossroads, searching for a new direction in life. When I felt ready to reenter the workforce, Atlanta WorkSource provided the encouragement I needed to thrive. Attending a job fair led me to my current position as a Trainer with the Compudopt organization.”

“I came to WorkSource Atlanta with a clear picture of what would boost my TV/Film industry career. The staff assisted me with attending Atlanta Technical College to seek a degree in Design and Media production. While in attendance there, an opportunity arose to work on TV shows and documentaries such as “Stranger Things and Wanda Vision” for Walt Disney Studios, to which I accepted the position. I completed my training at ATC in May 2021 and obtained a diploma in Design and Media Production and currently work in video editing, production, and as an actor. I will never forget the assistance I received and how it helped me accomplish my career goals.” Megan McAtee on the set of MACGYVER

“During the pandemic, I was laid off and needed to make some decisions on how I was going to support my family. I met a couple who spoke to me about training resources with WIOA. I knew I always wanted to pursue a career in the healthcare field, so I applied for WIOA services and was accepted to a 9-month pharmacy tech program with Fortis College. I am so grateful for WIOA. It catapulted me into my career path, which has motivated me to do better and set an example for my children. I am preparing to take my test to become a certified pharmacy tech. In the meantime, I have gained employment at Publix in the Pharmacy Department.”
